Adoption Stories and Resources

HEARTCRY

My parents were married for 16 years and did not think they could have children and all of a sudden got pregnant with me when they were in the middle of adopting. They still wanted to keep the baby they were adopting but back then adoption was so rare that the agency said that since you got pregnant, this child should go to someone else so I feel like a heart for adoption was implanted in me when I was in the womb.

I begged my parents to adopt children until I was about 17 but I think I was such a handful and my mother’s pregnancy was so difficult that they decided not to have more. They both came from really large families. From the time I was five years old, I said, I’m going to adopt a bunch of children one day and I kept my word!

Adoption Stories

Channing

Channing has a tremendous story of rescue in God’s sovereignty

In 2008, my godmother told me about the New Beginnings adoption agency, and it took about two years to get her home. I went to Nepal when she was a year old to bring her home. I stood with several other people at the US Embassy and they said you will never bring these children home.

As we returned to the hotel on the bus, I held my brand-new friend Karen who was sobbing, and I said if it’s God’s will that we get these children NOTHING is going to stand in the way, including our own US Embassy.

I remember coming home on my 43rd birthday without her, but I still had a sense of resolve that she would be mine.

Six months later due to miracle after miracle, I was able to go back and bring her home. She is now 14 and I have to remind myself when she’s being a teenager of the rescue story that she carries, and how tremendous it is that we have her in our lives.

Knox

We wanted to adopt again we were devastated when an adoption even fell through with a baby girl out of California. We set up an account on rainbow kids, which is for children all over the world you can pick the programs and the disabilities you’re OK with. I had not looked at our room rainbow kids match in a while (it’s almost like a dating matching but it’s matching for children that are waiting for homes) and I randomly checked our account and Knox was there. He was so cute and so adorable, I sent it to Rob and I said look at this little boy is he not precious! About a year and a half later he was home with us.

He is so smart and bright. Unfortunately, he is deaf. We were not prepared for that, they also told us he could speak even some English words which was not true. We had to end up thinking ‘Lord you must’ve wanted us to have this child if we had known everything we would not have proceeded’. It has been quite a journey for us with Knox and helping him overcome his deafness. He is very confident in spite of it, and we are all in the process of learning sign language, so we can communicate better.

Chambers

It’s amazing to have faith in the Lord who knows the desire of our hearts.

I always desired a newborn. We were in the process of moving to Las Vegas where I had accepted a radio job and we were selling a property. I received a phone call at 11:30 at night about a baby and we decided right then we were going to re-change change our lives for this little one.

I jumped in my car and drove 15 hours to meet our baby boy, Robin flew in from another city. Since then, he has been the light of our lives. We are close to his biological mother and we hope as time goes on he will get to know his other six siblings. He’s happy, joyful, and a blessing from the minute he gets up to the minute he goes to bed. The Lord truly cares about our heart’s desire.
